Irish Potato Recipe

An Irish potato, which is also known as a white potato or as an earth apple, is a significant part of the traditional Irish breakfast, which at the same time includes the bacon, soda bread, fried eggs, special sausage and black pudding. It is considered to be the main meal of the day in this country. In the Northern part of Ireland it is called as the Ulster fry and in the rest of the country it is called as the Ultimate Breakfast. But at the same time it is important not to forget about the potato famine in Ireland, which occurred from the year 1845 till the year 1851and became the cause of the death of the millions of men, women and children and also another million of people decided to run away from this country.

There is even one recipe, which is called the Irish potatoes, but at the same time it is prepared without the potatoes. For this dish you need the following ingredients:

0 milliliters butter, which has to be softened
115 gr. cream cheese, which has to be softened as well
455 gr. icing sugar and plus extra for covering hands
200 gr. sugared coconut flakes
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons milled cinnamon

Preparation:

Take a medium bowl. Mix the butter and cream cheese with the help of a mixer in this bowl. Add the icing sugar and vanilla and continue to mix. Stir the sugared coconut flakes into this bowl. Put the milled cinnamon into another small bowl. Cover your dry hands with the small quantity of the icing sugar and utilizing your hands take the small amount of the prepared mixture and shape it in the form of the potatoes. Dip the potatoes into the cinnamon and roll from all the parts. When all the potatoes have been shaped and dipped in the cinnamon, they have to be put in the refrigerator for several hours till they become firm.


   

Irish potato pancakes

So these Irish potatoes are candies, but if you want to prepare the Irish potato pancakes you must have the following ingredients for 6-8 pancakes:

230 gr. potatoes, which have to be peeled, boiled and mashed
230 gr. potatoes, which have to be peeled, grated and gripped in the dry condition
12 tablespoons flour
120 milliliters milk
1 egg
Oil
salt
pepper

Preparation:

Take a big bowl. Mix the potatoes, egg, flour, milk, salt and pepper to taste in this bowl. Warm a big amount of the oil in a frying pan. Drop 2 tablespoons of prepared batter in this frying pan. Stretch it out into a round form, which has to be 1,5 centimeter thick. Fry it till the brown crust. Turn it over. Fry it from the other side. Repeat the same thing with the residue of the batter.
