German Potato Salad

A potato salad is a dish, which is based on the potatoes, but the recipes and the methods of the preparation of this salad differ strikingly throughout the various countries and even throught different regions of the same countries in the world. This type of the salad is reputed to be a side dish, because this dish is usually served with the main dish, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, roasts, barbecue, fried chicken and cold sandwiches. That is why it is regarded as a snack food and is most often cooked for such occasions as the picnics, barbecues on the fresh air and the other types of the casual meals and events. The professional cooks have often recourse to the preparation of the german potato salad, because it may be prepared for a lot of people in a short period of time and at the same time it may be cooked in advance and put into refrigerator till it should be served. The foodstuffs, which are generally used for the preparation of this salad, are usually sold at a low price and may be found on the counters of each grocery and provision shop.

In the German language this salad is called as “Kartoffelsalat” and is usually prepared with the vinegar and bacon and it is srved warm, but at the same time in the northern part of this country this type of salad is usually based on the mayonnaise. There are various recepies for the preparation pf this salad, from which our mouthes are usually watering and further it has to be presented a recipe of a german potato salad.

Ingredients:

3-4 potatoes
100-150 gr. of bacon
A small red onion
3 tablespoons of citric acid or 1,5 tablespoons of vinegar
1 tablespoon of mustard
1 glass of cut parsley
0,5 glass of cut spring onions
vegetable oil
salt
pepper

Preparation:

Boil the potatoes in the water with salt. Peel them. Dice the potatoes. Put them into a bowl. Fry the chopped bacon till the crispy srust on the moddle fire. Add it to the potatoes. Fry the onions till the light golden crust in the same fat. Add the onions to the salad. Add the citric acid or vinegar into the frying pan. Turn the fire off. Pour the contents of the frying pan into the salad dish. Stir the ingredients. Add salt and pepper. Sprinkle the salad with the herbs.
